CRC has made it a priority to assist differently able children providing them with sufficient resources in education, health and nutrition. The objective of this is to prevent them being discriminated and provide an equal standard of living like normal children.
There millions of disabled children in the world and unfortunately majority of them belong to the poorest of the communities. More often than not they are deprived of education and even basic amenities of living. Due to their helplessness they are more likely to subject to abuse.
Protecting the rights of children with disabilities is not a new theme for UNICEF. It has been an integral part of our programming since the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) – the first international treaty to explicitly recognize the rights of children with disabilities. With the passing of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), our disability work has gained momentum.
CRC Sri Lanka is committed to ensure the rights of these helpless children by addressing the causes for these pathetic situations. Our agenda on disability is based on creating an atmosphere with equality for these children via our projects while building capacity among the donors and staff to take the leadership in protecting their rights.
